I have only vague memories of Singletary and Taylor playing, and I've only seen highlight footage of count Jackula, so I can't really say. I remember Seau better, but I don't really know how to compare him. They just let him roam everywhere and do what he wanted. And man, it seemed like he was in on nearly every tackle on the field. left, middle, right, screen, draw, crossing routes, posts... He was always just THERE. Don't know how much of that was just the system he was in and how much was talent, but it was pretty amazing to watch.

In case somebody hasn't seen it... 0:45 to 1:50. Ray Lewis and Chad Johnson. Makes me laugh :-)

That was pretty funny even though chad talks way to much thats what makes alot of people like him.

Ironically, Ray Lewis was a murderer off the field. I kid, I kid.

Put Tatum at LB for my team and I won't complain. (I know he was a Saftey)

I saw every snap he ever played in the NFL, he was the closest thing to God you're ever going to see on a football field. It was impossible to take your eyes off him, he created havoc on every play.

He will always be the number one linebacker/defensive player, he's in his own category.

Ray Lewis is at the top of the list. No MLB has ever been so good while being the heart and soul of a defense that won the SB without any type of offensive production.

Re: Where does/will Ray Lewis rank amongst the greatest linebackers ever?

The 2 best MLBs of my lifetime have been Mike Singletary and Ray Lewis.

Ray Lewis at his peak was better. He was such a fierce combo of speed, agility, instincts, competiveness and leadership.

I think he is the best on field leader in sports.

As much as I love watching Ray Lewis play, I do believe that he has been skating on reputation for the past 3 years or so.

Those tone setting, "impact plays" are diminishing.

He seems to get at least as much attention, for rolling onto the pile late, and getting up gyrating and hollering, as he does for the plays that he actually makes, these days.

P.S. Ray Lewis isnt on the same planet as L.T.
--We wont see a defensive player of L.T.s magnitude for a long time.

If you did not see L.T. in his prime, he's almost impossible to explain. When you try to describe the impact he had on games, it really sounds like you are describing a superhero.

It is so rare for a defensive player to be able to win a game all by himself. LT did this routinely.
