Re: How About Flacco and Ryan?
I like both of these guys. There is no wrong answer here, but I've been watching Matt Ryan since Boston College, cutting the heart out of Virginia Tech on a Thursday night game, just like he did about thirty minutes ago to the Ravens.
Flacco's got the physical talent. HUGE arm, tends to run hot and cold, but he doesn't appear to get flustered to me. Even down 13-0, tossing a bad pick, he just comes back and keeps shooting.
But Ryan has that grey matter that's unquantifiable. You just know it when you see it. He was so in command out there. Very acccurate, flawless decision-making. He was just so in command out there tonight. If there has been a criticism of Ryan, it's been for his mobility, but he worked the pocket tonight, stepped up, kept his feet alive and Mularkey is not hesitant to roll Ryan to his left away from his throwing hand (a rare and tough thing to do).
He saw everything the Ravens were bringing at them. There's a Peyton Manning thing going on there where you know he is well prepared and can just let the game flow. I knew that when I saw 1:05 on the clock and knowing they only needed a field goal, that he'd take them down the field. If I had to pick, Ryan would be my guy, just because there isn't the ebbs and flows. I know week-to-week what I'm going to get from him and in crunch-time he is simply special.
