In many ways, I still think he would have been had he not been burned out on football and quit. Many people forget that since his collegiate years he was being run into the ground. At one point he led the league in carries for 2 years and was always in the top 5 every other year. The Saints and Dolphins never built an offense so being the only offensive weapon, he got keyed on and took a lot of punishment. The guy got burned out on something he once enjoyed, made a selfish (but much needed) choice to quit the way he did, made amends and needed (financially & personally) one last go around at it.
Ricky's midcareer break has definitely kept him healthy well into his 30s. He's a very good #2 back and still runs with great power. Granted, he's not Earl Campbell II anymore, but I'm glad the Fins have him. Who would have thunk that a guy that quit football to smoke weed and do yoga in Australia would become a locker room leader and a prime example of professionalism?

I also think that playing on turf really hurt him. If he's started with a team that played on grass, and of course hadn't gone all Friday on us, he could have been an all time great.

Ricky was a 230lb HB with 4.4 speed. You just can't put that much stress on the lower body when changing directions on turf. If he played on a more forgiving surface earlier in his career, alot of the minor injuries are alleviated.

That depends. His freshman year he looked like a real great prospect.

However, if we are talking about when he was drafted, yeah, I think everyone could peg him as a bust.

I wasnt the least impressed by him at tOSU! I knew he was overrated and everybody I discussed football with knew he was overrated. He was way too slow his balance was suspect and he wasnt strong enough to over power NFL players. He had bust all over him.
