Walter Jones, Orlando Pace or Jonathan Ogden

Probably the three best left tackles of the past 10 years...who was the best?

Re: Walter Jones, Orlando Pace or Jonathan Ogden

I would like to say Orlando Pace mainly because of the type of offense he protected for.

If you look at the full body of work, neither of the other two LTs had to carry as much weight on their shoulders than Pace & co of the Greatest Show era. The Mike Martz offense called for little to no additional help in protection schemes aside from the o-line itself. On top of that, the offense called for 4-5 receiver sets forcing the QB to hold the ball longer in order to make all the additional reads; this puts a lot of pressure on the o-line to win it's individual matchups on a far more consistant basis than what Ogden or Jones faced. Ogden's offense was run-based, thus he was the aggressor more often, while Jones had a steady, balanced offense predicated on timed, rhythm passing with the WCO, so passes were never held in the pocket for too long.

That's just my opinion though.

I tend to agree, although I think Ogden might be better than him right now. I think Pace is third, despite his pass-protecting prowess.

Ogden has been retired the past 2 years.

I honest to God cannot decide. Either way, you're solid.

I'd say Ogden, but I think Bosselli was better than all three had he stayed healthy and would certainly have taken Willie Roaf over any of them.
