Trent Edwards is no Carson Palmer (or Brett Favre)

Cleveland Browns defensive coordinator Rob Ryan calls out Buffalo Bills quarterback Trent Edwards

Rob Ryan called out Buffalo Bills quarterback Trent Edwards today.CLEVELAND, Ohio - Browns defensive coordinator Rob Ryan called out Buffalo Bills quarterback Trent Edwards -- Sunday's opponent -- during his press conference today.

Ryan, who admitted that Edwards made some disparaging remarks about his Oakland Raiders defense last season, said about Edwards today: "I don't think that's (Bengals quarterback) Carson Palmer back there by any stretch.''

Asked if he really meant to say that Edwards isn't as good as Palmer, Ryan said, "Absolutely. He's not. Not too many quarterbacks are. The guy can run and do some things, but we've played Brett Favre, we've played Carson Palmer. Those are two pretty good quarterbacks right there.

"This guy (Edwards) always seems to have a lot to say, so I'm going to say the same thing. Let's go. Let's get it on.''

Re: Trent Edwards is no Carson Palmer (or Brett Favre)

Ryan seems like the kind of guy always looking to pick a fight. I wish he was more like his brother in NY. So what if Edwards said stuff about Oakland's defense last year? Be a man and let it go under the bridge.

No one is even comparing Edwards to Palmer or Favre and no one will. He's an average to good QB who's shown flashes of brilliance but at the same time he's regressed a bit since he got that concussion. You add that to the fact that the O-Line is as useful in front of him as a broken condom and it's hard for anyone to perform much less be a top level QB.

Oh well....It's not my fight.

Re: Trent Edwards is no Carson Palmer (or Brett Favre)

I seriously thought Trent was going to be the best quarterback since Flutie here in Buffalo after last year's tremendous start. He was accurate, read defenses well and actually stretched the field when he needed to.

Then, like most moments in Buffalo sporting history, one second turned this guy's whole potential southward. Adrian Wilson's sack in the Arizona game.

From that moment forward, Edwards hasn't been the same, even in games like New England where he played pretty solid despite making obvious mistakes. It's pretty apparent he's playing not to get hurt and not to get intercepted.

Quarterbacks who play that way don't have long careers as starters. Period. If he doesn't stick around as a backup, his rookie contract that expires next year will be yet ANOTHER curtain call for a Bills' starting quarterback. What a mess.

I think alot of Edwards "regressing" has to do with the fact he lost his franchise Left Tackle, most his starting O-line & his OC from both last year & the beginning of this year.

Oh you mean the guy who half assed it last season so he could get out of dodge and the OC who came up with a super complicated scheme in the preseason with a million and one plays?

In actuality the current OC has simplified the gameplan so it should be EASIER for Edwards however Edwards seems to be scared to throw the ball deep. Almost everything is to the TE/RB

Exactly, any guy with both T.O and Lee Evans who is scared to throw down the field obviously has something not working. He's simply scared to throw long at all.
