Sweetness..10 years

Just wanted to remind everyone that Walter Payton's 10 anniversary is tomorrow (Nov 1)

The Bears are encouraging the fans to wear their #34 jersey and the family will be there..there will also be a halftime tribute to Sweetness.

I will be there like always but tomorrow will be special...I am really looking forward to the tribute and seeing everyones reaction in the stands.

Re: Sweetness..10 years

I did not know this.

I still remember when the guy who ran the local sports trading card store gave me a Sweetness jersey for helping him out on a sidewalk sale circa 1991.

I was the happiest kid in the world that day!

It's always awesome when sports franchises show respect for past players.

I hope you guys win tomorrow in honor of him. Good luck.

Re: Sweetness..10 years

not ashamed to admit i shed a tear when he passed. he was my favorite player of all time and the first one i recognized by name as a kid (like 3 or 4 years old). even though i was a 'skins fan i had a bears pennant hanging in my room and a payton jersey as well. still root for da bears to do well to this day. hopefully they get a W to pay tribute...

I can't believe it's been 10 years. I like the tribute that the Bears are doing. Walter was the reason I became a Bears fan when I was 7.

Re: Sweetness..10 years

Walter Payton was the heart and soul of the Chicago Bears. That phrase is said a lot by me but in this case it's definitely true because when the Bears truly sucked Payton was the ENTIRE offense. They'd run the ball with Payton to the left, right and middle and they'd throw to Payton almost all the time too. The guy gave his blood, sweat and tears for that organization and to top it all he was indeed sweetness. I've heard that he was one of the all time best PEOPLE in football.

It's great that the Bears are honoring Payton today and I hope they win the game in his memory.
