Re: Your Impact Rookie

Not a lot of rookies making a big impact in SD. But Kevin Ellison is now starting at SS and while he's raw and has made some mistakes, he's been a big improvement imo, over Clinton Hart.

Larry English in a limited role is starting to show he might just be a legit NFL edge rusher.

Not a surprise, though.

Russell is not Ryan Leaf until he starts screaming at reporters. THEN at least he'll be interesting!

Re: Your Impact Rookie

For the Cowboys you have to say David Buehler (kicker). I know it sounds quite miniscule, but the guy has already accounted for 17 touchbacks this year (out of 30 kick offs). For a defensive coordinator, there's nothing better than knowing exactly where your defense is going to be spotted on the field because it truely helps dictate playcalling. On top of that, the guy actually plays special teams in that he's on the return unit and goes down the field as an extra tackler on kick offs so it's not like it's 10 on 11 for the opponent.

The Cowboys actually have a very good special teams unit (kickers & punters) and I think their ability to dictate field position battles & score (returns & FGs) has heavily impacted the team's success.

Hakeem Nicks.

Gonna be a 1000 yard receiver soon.

Kinda reminds me of Roddy White.

Re: Your Impact Rookie

Malcolm Jenkins came up with key turnovers on special teams before he got hurt and last week filled in for Jabari Greer and didn't give up anything. Thomas Morstead has been amazing so far. People were mad that Payton traded up for a punter but he was well worth the picks, he was the reason(along with Malcolm) the Panthers got the ball on the two, which ended up with Anthony Hargrove getting a touchdown. The only other two picks got season ending injuries during training camp so they haven't been able to show anything.

Re: Your Impact Rookie

I can't really say much about my Bucs other than Josh Freeman cuz I've only gotten a chance to watch their game against Green Bay (so glad that's the one I got to watch though).

My local team, the Bills, obviously Jairus Byrd is the impact rookie. He's one of the first exciting defensive players the Bills have had in a long time. Eric Wood and the guard they got (can't even remember his name) have both at least been starters. Granted, the offensive line is absolutely horrific, but these 2 guys are rookies on a line full of newcomers so there's at least hope for the future. And lastly, still waiting for Ellis Lankster to get his chance. He was disgusting in training camp, with like 2 interceptions every day, and then he had a bunch of INTs in the pre-season too. Can't wait for him to finally get a chance in real game action.
