Pat Kirwan also said the Bills aren't going to get a big time coach because of "move rumors" and Wilson dying soon. The Bills sold the most season tickets ever this year. Normally I love Kirwan but he's wrong on this one just like he was wrong that Jauron is a good coach.

Why are all these national media types acting like this Buffalo job would be the equivalent of an Urban Meyer going to coach Florida Atlantic? It's still the NFL. It's not like the Bills could go undefeated and still not get a chance to play in the Super Bowl because they're not a big enough program.

Sure, Buffalo may not be as big or as exciting of a town as a Washington or Dallas or Chicago, but I'd put the passion Bills' fans have for that team up against any other team in the league.

And money is money! It's not like Ralph is going to try to get these guys to come in here and work for peanuts. He's willing to pay them what those other franchises would, at least he says he is.

TJ, sadly I think the Bills right now are in the position that Green Bay was in before Ron Wolf was hired to take over football operations. Green Bay had more years of ineptitude but still had some left over prestige from the Lombardi years whereas because of the "what have you done for me lately" attitude of people today the Kelly/Levy Era seems to be just as far flung a time even though most of the Kelly Era Bills all live in the WNY area and are very visible in Buffalo media.

It's going to take a big personality who can get big name players to come here before things will change about Buffalo. It's been just under 20 years ago when the Bills were the national game on NBC (AFC coverage) and had Sunday and Monday Night games. A big name guy and some good players along with winning will pump up the profile of the city and the team.

I think the Bills' biggest challenge in acquiring a big name head coach is their owner. Ralph doesn't have much time left. I'm not sure who's next in the line of succession, but a new owner means instability. Yeah, Ralph would be less involved in the day to day football operations than Jerry Jones or Dan Snyder, but his successor could be different. If I'm an indemand head coach, I'll go to a team with a clear future.

There's 3 possibilities for the Bills. BTW there's already a plan in place after Ralph dies as his Will states that the team would go up for auction:

1. Bills are bought by Larry Tannenbaum and the children of Ted Rogers (remember a corporate entity can't own an NFL team) and the team eventually moves to Toronto

2. Someone with ties to WNY buys the team and keeps them in Buffalo. There are a couple likely suitors Tom Golisano who currently co-owns the Sabres and the tandem of Jim Kelly and cohorts with Jeremy Jacobs (the owner of the Boston Bruins)

3. The team is sold to someone completely off the map and moves out of the WNY/Ontario market radius

Right, right. Things are a bit more complicated in Buffalo, but any team looking to hire a new coach usually means the team is a bit out of sorts anyway. Sometimes you'll inherit a team that's still built to win but the coach just never got over the proverbial hump, but it's usually a rebuilding team that hires a new coach.
