It's like what Peter King stated in his SI MMQB article - if it wasn't for the league's actions and thoughts recently regarding concussions then he'd be playing no doubt. Someone created a thread calling Mike Sellars an idiot for stating "I'm not snitching" if someone doesn't look ready to comeback from a concussion - this perspective is carried throughout the league as Hines demonstrated.

However Ward took the ignorance to another level when he publicly spewed his misguided views. You don't talk about what another person should do with his well-being.

Idiot. And I like Ward too.
Agreed.

Can't agree with Ward here. After reading and listening to everything said before the game about Ben, he wasn't ready (and medically cleared to play).

I don't understand this football mentality of 'spitting on wounds' or flat out lying. Too many concussions now can cause hell in your life later, and they all know this. Ward is basically telling him to forget the rest of his life, and come win now. That's BS.

I'm glad the NFL is starting to crack down on this ****, but these players are just going to continue lying to get on the field. I hope they don't start bitching about the consequences later.

The culture of football is consistent with Ward comments. The NFL is just recently coming with terms to the seriousness of brain injuries. All of these guys played with brain injuries and many them will suffer long term brain damage. The NFL knows the lawsuits are just around the corner.

The NFL still need to do more but I don't know how much of any preventions will prevent brain injuries in football.

Hines can do what he wants to his own body, but to speak for someone else and on a lesser degree that players family is nuts.People die from Brain injuries every day.Concussions are no joke. There is no such thing as getting a "ding" on your brain. Its akin to being a little pregnant. It must be taken seriously on a case by case basis and i think the NFL and the Dr.s are doing the right thing. There is reason these players average 3-4 years on their career,it takes a lifelong toll on the body.

I am hearing about too many players struggling with serious brain injuries because of football. I stepped away from boxing because of the same issue with brain injuries.

Re: Wow, Hines Ward called out Roethlisberger before the game last night

I simply don't know what else the NFL can do to help with head injuries besides these new measure. The problem isn't lack of care it's the size & speed of players today. Think about it: players are bigger, faster, stronger & use lighter/more advanced materials in their uniforms thus equalling bigger impacts even in short range, cramped situations. Jim Brown at the time was an unheard of size for a RB, now, he'd be dwarfed in overall size by even WRs.

Maybe the helmet should be redesigned altogether. It seems the Revo & Speed helmets use more protection in the crown and set the jaw-line padding further in so as to help the brain avoid the trickle up of an impact but what more is there? Full body armour?
