Goodell: Dolphins' stadium needs improvements

The Miami area will reap the benefits of hosting the Super Bowl in February. But if the Miami area wants the Super Bowl to return, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell says the Dolphins' stadium needs some improvements.

Even though the stadium underwent $250 million in improvements in 2007, Goodell said it's not as good a facility as the new stadiums in Dallas, Phoenix and Indianapolis, or the stadium that will be built in New York. That's why Goodell says South Florida is in danger of no longer being competitive in the bidding for future Super Bowls.

Dolphins owner Stephen Ross said the team is studying improvements such as better lighting and changing the location of field-level seats. Those are among the problems that make the 22-year-old stadium substandard in the eyes of the NFL.

And if those problems aren't fixed, the NFL says it will take Miami out of the rotation for future Super Bowls.

That's not gonna happen because the NFL is way too uptight about their Super Bowl halftime shows after Janet Jackson which is why we're stuck with The Who this year.

As for this whole Miami stadium thing, I think it's pretty ridiculous that Goodell expects them to upgrade their stadium to match Indy, Dallas, Arizona, etc. after they just spent all that money upgrading it in 2007.

In less than 25 yrs, a 9 figure investment, plus, 9 more figures in improvements is now obsolete.

I'm sick & tired of the leagues blackmailing communities to put them up in luxury. The audacity to beg for more perks when cities are having trouble taking care of the basic needs of their citizens is just mind-numbing. Mind-numbing.

That's ridiculous.. what's wrong with it anyways? And I don't know why he's comparing the Dolphins stadium to stadiums that were just built. It'd take an entirely new stadium to match Dallas, Indy, and Arizona.

Goodell's leadership is what needs improvement.....or outright replacement.

The NFL is really setting itself up to be taken down several pegs in a big way. Stuff like this is outright extortion. It's only a matter of time before the Fed takes notice and gives Goodell and the NFL the humbling they deserve.
