Mike Holmgren is a glutton for punishment.

I like the move but what makes people think he's going to turn this franchise around? Just because Parcells had success in Miami does not mean Holmgrem will go to Cleveland and immediately make them contenders. He didn't do much in Seattle.

I'm rooting for you guys but I just don't see him making a big impact like most fans are expecting.

Yeah taking a team to a Superbowl isn't doing much.

Yeah I know he was relieved of his GM duties before he got them to the Super Bowl, but still.

5 division titles in 10 years with the Seahawks.
.541 winning percentage
Took a guy in Hasselbeck who was a project and turned him into a pro-bowl QB.

While he won't be coaching, he has a knack for offensive talent. I'm sure he will surround Brady Quinn with the right coaches.

This sucks for Mangini. He deserves better, imo.

What?

Holmgren has won everywhere. He knows what players can fit HIS system and he is a QB guru.

If Holmgren cannot do it, I don't think anyone can turn around the Browns.

No but I mean, the team is rallying around Mangini. I think he deserves another year. Their defense hasn't been bad.

But Holmgren is going to want to bring in a West Coast offensive guy.

See i think he will give mangini one more year. looks like browns got them a running back , recievers just need some veteran presence to help them out . their oline is ok . defensively if it wasn't for all of there injuries it would be a good d . they need help at cb. but i think its a workable team. the big question mark for the team is at the qb position

Re: Mike Holmgren is in Cleveland with his agent (Deal agreed to).

Holmgren has gone on record as saying (more than has bee reported) he almost always believes a coach should get a 2nd year with a team.

That being said, he cited Cam Cameron as an "exceptional circumstance" after 1-15, and seemed to implicitly agree with that firing. I mean I think what actually undoes Mangini isn't the west coast offense thing, it's the 3-4 defense thing. Holmgren has never put one together.

But if he hires a GM , then maybe none of that matters. I don't know why he'd be "president" and then hire a GM. Maybe a "player personnel guy" like Mueller or something.

Re: Mike Holmgren is in Cleveland with his agent (Deal agreed to).

Holmgren talked to the Cleveland media today.

*Talked about hiring a GM and mentioned several people, like Reggie McKensie (Sp?) and several others that he had helped along the way. Wants to get as many people as possible in Cleveland.

*Sounds like Mangini will be back next year in a severely downgraded role. Much more of just a head coach and not the supreme dictator that he wanted to be.

*Holmgren did not rule out coaching in the future.

Those are about the bullet points.
