If people really think 2007 New England is the best team of the decade, shouldn't we just retoactively give them the Lombardi trophy then?

With that said, the 2004 Pats had exactly the right personnel to match up with their 2007 team. They probably had better coaching as well.
Now you're placing a caveat on your original question. Is it "best team" or "best team in the game that mattered"?

Nevertheless, it's all opinion anyway.

Re: 10+ questions for 10 years

Best team? New England Patriots

Best individual team? 2004 New England

Best player? Peyton Manning

Best individual performance? Adrian Peterson running for 296 yards.

Best play? David Tyree's helmet catch.

Best game? Last Year's Super Bowl

Biggest upset? Giants over Patriots.

Biggest controversy? Tuck Rule

Biggest "What If?" What If Miami had signed Brees instead of Culpepper

Worst personnel decision? Miami signing Daunte Culpepper instead of Drew Brees.

Worst coaching decision? 4th and 2 NE this year

Most important moment/play? The Tuck Rule

Your favorite team's best moments? Well this was a hard decade, but I would say last year when we won the Division.

Its worst moments? 2007 1-15.

Re: 10+ questions for 10 years

Best team? New England Patriots but I'm throwing out an honorable mention to the Eagles for the NFC.

Best individual team? 2007 New England.

Best player? Tom Brady.

Best individual performance? Adrian Peterson running for 296 yards. Can't really argue with that one.

Best play? Music City Miracle with honorable mention to 4th & 26.

Best game? Rams vs. Pats Superbowl.

Biggest upset? Probably the one that just happend,Bucs over Saints. At least the Pats lost to a playoff team. Sure it was one they already beat but still a team that made it to the Super Bowl. Bucs had 2 wins,Saints had 1 loss. Can't think of another off the top of my head but there was the 1-15 Dolphins team but I think that 1 win had come against a 3-13 team.

Biggest controversy? Cleveland late review riot. No Fun League celebration rules too maybe.

Biggest "What If?"...Carson Palmer didn't go down against those dirty Steelers?/If the tuck rule play went the Raiders way?

Worst personnel decision? Probably something 0-16 Detroit or 1-15 Miami did.

Worst coaching decision? Probably something 0-16 Detroit or 1-15 Miami did.

Most important moment/play? Tuck rule play.

Your favorite team's best moments? The botched snap game.

Its worst moments? Just about everything after the botched snap game (excluding getting Willis @ 11 and Gore in round 3) until Singletary took over.

Back in 2004, the Patriots (12-1) went to Miami (2-11) on MNF and had a 28-17 lead with under 4 minutes left and the Dolphins came back to beat us with two late touchdowns.

To me, that might be biggest regular season upset.

The best team doesn't always walk away with the W in the NFL.
I'll pose the question again.

If 2007 New England is the team of the decade, should we just give them the 2008 Lombardi Trophy?

I've already stated that I think 2004 New England is the better team. Honestly, they had exactly the right personnel/scheme/coaching to beat their 2007 counterparts. 2007 New England was pretty mediocre defensively, especially against the run (not even in the top 10 in the NFL). In contrast, the 2004 Patriots had the #6 rushing attack in the league (and the #2 rusher in the league) and were the ultimate time consumers.

2004 New England completely dominated an equally lethal Colts team using that exact same strategy. They ran the ball, they held the ball, and they knocked Manning to the ground. Sound familiar?

If the 2007 Giants could beat the Patriots once and give them a run for their money in another game using a similar scheme, I'd like to believe a much better 2004 Patriots squad could do the same.

What's the botched snap play for the 49ers? Only significant botched snap I can remember is the Romo one.

Against the Giants in the '03 playoffs. Epic comeback by the 49ers capped by the botched snap by the Giants and later and admitted blown call.
