I like that we got rid of Mora. But we go get a guy trying to escape sanctions? Were there no better options?

Watch the Seahawks now do something stupid like trade for Matt Leinart.

And what's up with the Rooney Rule? Why even have it? At this point it seems more disrespectful to have it than to not have it, if teams are just going to basically ignore it and bypass it so easily.

This.

It's more insulting to have the rule then it would be not to have it. It's awful that the league forces these teams to bring guys in they have no intention of hiring to satisfy some rule. It's also awful that the league makes teams put the minority coaches through this. How many minorities have been hired compared to the amount that were brought in for pointless interviews just to comply with the rule?

Tony Dungy has made statements with this basic premise...These teams aren't seriously considering these minorities. Cleveland, Washington, and Seattle all knew who they wanted right away.

RE: The Rooney Rule...

Hopefully all this crap will fall by the wayside, sooner rather than later. These are men we are talking about, not black men, not African Americans. They are men, perfectly capable of coaching in the NFL.

If management of an NFL franchise still wants to hold on to erroneous beliefs from a backwards age, then it's their loss really. As it stands now the Rooney Rule just perpetuates segregation, by claiming that these men are somehow different, and in need of special assistance. Bull****. The only ones who are in need of assistance are the ones who won't hire them purely on the basis of their race.

I agree with you. In this day and age race shouldnt be an issue.

I dunno about this. Carroll seems to simply have jumped ship as his fanfare & good fortune was fading him at USC. He hasn't shown a great track record in the NFL in the past but then again, he at least runs an pro-based offense so that will help him. He's got some good pieces in Seattle and the division is winnable so even an average stint there could win the team some division crowns.

But that's the whole thing. There's nothing Roger Goodell can say to a Dan Snyder/Seattle GM that will make him think "Hey, instead of having my heart set on Shanahan from day one, maybe I should look at this non-white candidate instead". The Rooney Rule is simply for the tiniest opportunity. To get your NAME out there.

There are minority assistants and coordinators out there who get NO PLAY yet Josh McDaniels, whose like 16 years old, is immediately put on the map for going 10-6 with Matt Cassel. That's all it took. Yet guys like Dungy had to sit on coaching trees for years before they get a shot.

Can someone explain why Norv Turner continues to get coaching opportunities? This season is his first ACTUAL good season where it looks like his team has a shot at winning. The truth is, he's a losing coach and if the Chargers lose to the Jets, he's reason #1.

Most rules/laws involving race or ethnicity are circumvented in the beginning. It needs revision, yes. But with the way the "Good Ole Boys" club does its hiring process, it's a necessary rule.
