Some of the more savvy X and O guys correct me, but didn't Rice have a little more of an advantage because his coach (Bill Walsh) implemented what is now known as the "West Coast Offense" and was able to refine it more during his 49er tenure. Were the defenses more vulnerable to it in the 80s? I'm asking.
Quite a few "ifs" there.

The attitude is definitely the biggest problem.

Given that quarterbacks are always praised more than WRs, he would have never been able to deal with playing with Peyton or Brady. Brees is possible because he doesn't really seem like a media lovefest type guy.

In the modern NFL I could see Jerry Rice's records falling one day. His TD record his probably his safest one.
