Re: Bob Sanders... worthless?

Antoine Bethea's emergence has lessened Sanders' importance.

To be honest, safeties aren't really that important in any system. I was a little confused when the Colts gave him his big deal. He's certainly not playing to it right now, through no fault of his own. But it's a business thing; he's not delivering value so he needs to either take a pay cut or get cut.

I can't disagree more.

Did you see the Steelers defense with out Troy Polamalu this year?

Did you see what the Saints defense did with Darren Sharper this year?

Check the improvement of the Texans defense once they signed Bernard Pollard. They stopped giving up 70 yard touchdown runs. Instead, they turned into 12 yard runs.

Safeties are the most under-appreciated player on the defense in the NFL. The two teams in the Super Bowl both have awesome passing attacks. You got to have your defensive backfield in order to stop that kind of attack and safeties act as the "field generals" of the defensive backfield. Unless you have someone like Revis, corners are the lesser of importance.

The only thing that it goes to show is that Melvin Bullitt and Antoine Bethea are vastly underrated. That's the reason why missing Bob Sanders isn't such a big deal.

Z Revis knows my thoughts on him so no need to reiterate the obvious

He hasn't been able to stay healthy, but I don't think I've ever seen a safety have more impact than he did during their last SuperBowl run.

Me and my dad were joking a few weeks ago about him. I think it was the Divisional Playoff game against the Ravens. They mentioned Melvin Bullitt, saying that's he the replacement for the injured Bob Sanders. I said "no.. Bob Sanders is the replacement for Melvin Bullitt". lol. That's what it's coming to now. Bullitt is essentially the starter, Sanders will come in every now and then before he gets taken out by another injury.

Re: Bob Sanders... worthless?

Sanders is a player that plays bigger than his body. A small strong safety that lay that type of punishment wasn't going to last too long in the NFL. He did play a key role in winning a Super Bowl for the Colts but he will never play a full 16 games.
