Re: Is Drew Brees a Hall of Famer?

3-4 more years of this current pace and a couple deep playoff wins and another SB appearance or victory and he's a HOF'er in my book. Probably not a first ballot guy but he'll get in within 5 years of eligibility.

HOF'er RIGHT now? No.

But, at this point he'd have to REALLY screw up to blow it. He's been playing well for 6 years straight, threw in a 5,000 yard season, and a Super Bowl win in which he actually had one of the best performances of all time. The media likes him, and history is always kind to players that are largely responsible for resurrecting dead franchises.

He can pretty much cruise now.

If Brees never takes another snap no way he goes in.

Give it some time.
What do you mean if he never takes another snap again? No Brees isn't a HOF'er. He has the ability to be one because, as of right now if Manning retired Brees would be the best QB in the league.

But yes this is way to soon.

Oh never mind I know what you mean.

Either an injury or a roster implosion. Outside of that, I agree with you, he's likely to get there.

Re: Is Drew Brees a Hall of Famer?

Option 2, possibly.

I am not the biggest fan of the guy (a minority I know), but I cannot help but respect/admire the skills of the man at QB. One hell of a player who has had one hellova 3-year span so far with his new team, The New Orlean Saints.

If I take one positive from the humble pie I dined don today from Brees, it's this: Brees winning must knock off Archie Manning as the most loved QB in New Orleans history Love that. Sick of hearing about him every time we have to talk about New Orleans or the Manning brothers.

Re: Is Drew Brees a Hall of Famer?

Right now, no. But he's got a decent shot at it, and today's performance won't hurt him any. But I take issue with the idea that post-season success is requisite for HOF consideration...I know that's the standard for a team, but for individuals? There's just too much going on in a game where there are 22 starters on both sides of the ball, countless other guys who play in certain packages, special teams, etc., to accurately evaluate one guy's career vs another in terms of wins/losses. I mean, Barry Sanders won exactly one playoff game in his career. Are we to assume that every guy on the list of RB's with many, many more playoff wins and Superbowl rings was a better running back than Barry?

In the mythical situation of "all things being equal", then post-season stats and championships would be a reasonable factor to include. The trouble is, there is no such thing as "all things being equal". That situation doesn't exist. I mean, if Tom Brady is on the Detroit Lions or Oakland Raiders, would he even still be in the league? I think each guy gets evaluated on their own merit, which is the way it should be in football.
