The first 6 months to a year of operation NFL-N showed a TON of NFL Films stuff. In fact, there was about an hour or two each day (mostly daytime though) devoted to it. Ever since they decided to report on the league more substantially and brought in their own analysts and such they started to drop the NFL-N content. Actually, everything went down the tubes that way when they hired the former head of MTV (I think might be a former ESPN exec tho?) that's when the network really went off the rails.

Everything I hear about MLB-N makes me think they've done EVERYTHING right with just enough variety of content to fit everyone's needs with classic games, great analysis of the game, live in house broadcasting of games etc etc. I sure hope the NFL, NHL and NBA (though NBA is pretty good in this regard) realizes that's the best way to do things even if it means spending a bit more money at times.

I must've gotten the NFL Network long after the beginning, because during the time I had it I never seen any of that. That's a shame that they changed course like you said. When I had NFL Network, it was a joke.

Great, about to switch to DirectTV and now I find out NFL Network sucks. Thanks! Eh well, I'm still saving a butt load of money over cable.

No worries. DURING the season the NFL Network is great, not to mention the couple of games you'll only be able to see on NFLN. NFL Replay is great too... all the preseason games and best games of the week throughout the season. Today they're showing the last 3 SBs back to back. During the playoffs they showed the previous games the playoff teams played.

There's still plenty to like about NFLN.

Do they have any shows similar to what ESPN had back in the day where Suzy Kolber & Ron Jaworski go over actual X's & O's? Those shows fascinate me at how complex the systems are.

Yes AFC and NFC playbook. They do two shows for the upcoming week and 2 shows for the week that just concluded. It's actually a pretty good show and goes a long way towards explaining the games and why some teams are having success or not.

SPTO answered. I personally think the Playbook shows are much better than anything ESPN does or has done. I also don't know if you're planning on getting the NFL package but if not, the Redzone channel is probably worth the money by itself (and it's connected to NFLN). They had pretty good draft coverage last year too.

Really the offseason is the only time it's not all that great, but that should be expected imo.

ESPN still has NFL Matchup with Jaws and Hoge which is a great show. Unfortunately they show it at like 3 AM on Sunday mornings so no one can watch it.
