Big Fan

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wybmI_ezdAQ

Watched this recently on netflix and immediately thought about OS (and any other forum where the NFL is so highly debated by devoted fans)...wondered how many Paul Aufiero's there are out there. It's a funny, yet, somewhat disturbing film and pretty good.

Re: Big Fan

Saw it.

It could have been alot better if the film knew what it wanted to be. At some points it's a dark character piece, other times it's trying to be a comedy, and still other times make social commentary. The ending feels contrived because the movie never establishes what it is to begin with.

I was impressed with Patton Oswalt's acting. But he's wasted in the role. He's a really funny guy and didn't really get loose in this flick. If they had gone for a straight up black comedy film instead of trying to get serious in the middle, this would have been an all time great because the premise of the movie was golden. Moreover I have great respect for the director's guerrilla tactic of not getting the NFL's permission to use it's trademarks. That took balls.

Re: Big Fan

I feel like the movie knew exactly what it wanted to be. A character study. Life isn't always funny like a comedy, it isn't always serious like a drama. It mixes. I loved the movie. It felt like a very honest depiction of the most dedicated of dedicated fans.

That said, if Aaron Rodgers jacks me up in a fight, i'm suing. Just sayin'. I love money.

I agree. The movie just meanders without much of a purpose or impact. The pacing is weird, story is pretty weak, funny idea, though. It has a couple good scenes but overall a big disappointment. It sort of reminded me of Buffalo 66 but not nearly as good. Oswalt is pretty good in it.

That was pretty much Paul Aufiero's(Oswalt) life though. Therefore, I think the film achieved its goal.
