Yeah, the other side is if you under perform the team just cuts your non-guaranteed contract.

Or, as the article said (did you read either of the links?) they can't afford to do much right now so it's almost like the money is more important to him than the team by forcing the issue right now.

The article states that there are limitiations due to the 30% raise limit imposed in the non cap year. That can easily change with a new CBA and the article also stated they can pay him millions up front to get around that (they don't want to).

There really is nothing new here at all. CJ wants to be paid a lot of money and has proven himself. The Titans don't want to pay him a lot of money.

Yeah there isn't much new... I just liked that quote by Fisher.

The limitations you mentioned can change, so it'd be in CJ's best interest to wait for that, no? The money up front is a different issue that I can see why a team wouldn't want to pay but others disagree. But based on your quote, do you really think that if CJ has a less than stellar season he'll get cut? There's no way that would happen so it doesn't really fit in this case... it's a better point in the Patrick Crayton thread.

CJ would probably never get cut unless he suffered an injury that hurt his ability. He's a major injury away from losing that tremendous speed and quickness that makes him special. That's why he wants the big money when he can get it and the Titans are trying to protect themselves. I see both sides of the coin with big extensions for RBs but the kid does deserve a raise.

Of course he deserves a raise, and being the NFL, of course he should be worried about being injured also (and just not putting up a sick season like that bc it doesn't happen often). The thing is, the Titans are sitting on a stack of cash that they just refuse to spend... they're in a financial bind and he's choosing now to cry about money. He's not getting cut... just put up another solid season (1300-1500 total yards should be reasonable and enough) and then ask for your big raise when the team can afford it and also work to keep becoming better to help you get a ring too.
