It's not irrational if it's true. The fact remains, when you pick a guy #1, you don't expect him to be gone in 6 years and you have to pick another guy to replace him. A #1 pick is supposed to be a franchise changing, long term investment. I don't think anyone feels otherwise. Vick didn't live up to that end of the deal, and as such I'd label him a bust.

Re: Is Michael Vick a 'bust'?

When Vick was drafted, everyone was saying he was going to be the Michael Jordan of the NFL. He has been decent but no where near as good as he was made out to be.

Imo, he is a bust.

Going from being compared to the Michael Jordan of your sport to the Big House is bust material in my eyes.

He is backing up Kevin Kolb for crying out loud.

What is a "semi-productive season" vs a "productive season" ?

If only 1-2 quarterbacks a year have a "productive season" (which logically if a NFC Chip and Pro Bowl appearance are only semi-productive) then very few players have more than that.

So from 1986-present, which #1 picks would you describe as not busts?

I have Aikman, Manning, Pace, and possibly an argument for Bledsoe. Manning and Palmer are on the fence right now. That's at most, 7 out of 24 non-busts.

Who cares about Pro Bowls. I think David Garrard went to the PB last year. Pro Bowls mean zero. 3 semi productive years. Hell a couple of those years were 8-8, 7-9 type seasons. Vick was never that productive at QB.

The teams drafting #1 were drafting #1 for a reason. A high bust rate, should not be surprising.

Eli Manning and Palmer on the fence? Winning a SB for the team that drafted you only leaves you 'on the fence'....and Palmer to me is already not a bust. He's helped turn Cincy around and when healthy is a top 10 QB. I'd say Keshawn was not a bust.

Look I'm not saying Vick was a complete failure in Atlanta. But as a long term investment, he did not hold up. That to me is a bust.

I agree with everything you said.

Palmer isn't a bust. He turned around the worst franchise in the NFL and is still the starter in Cincy. He has just suffered from the injury bug.

Vick is no longer leading the Falcons and was completely out of the league for two years. Vick is now a backup while Manning and Palmer start for their respective teams. It's pretty easy to see who the bust is among the three.

A mismanaged career perhaps, but I wouldn't consider him a bust, no.

Not a bust.

Michael Vick is a matter of games away from being Philly's saviour, since they traded McNabb to the Skins.
