I'm not saying go out and throw $100M at a guy, all I'm asking for is a league average or slightly above average player to fill glearing holes. Darren Sharper would have been a great fit to replace the always injured Bigby. I just can not stand TT mainly because his drafts to baffle me at times. Sure he has gotten lucky on a few players here and there, but to trade down out of the 1st round and then make Jordy Nelson your 1st pick of the draft over a guy like DeSean Jackson? That's where he lost me.I would much rather have Polian, or some other guy as our GM, we can not win a SB when we have the youngest team every single season, that is his philosophy and it isn't going to work. Also, the Mike Neal drafting in the 2nd round was just horrible flat out horrible.
DeSean Jackson had character questions coming out of Cal. And there were doubts on his size, NCAA to NFL WR translation, etc. Theres a reason why he fell out of the first round, and so late into the second. It's easy to say it was questionable to pass on him two years later. Hind sight is 20/20.

Mike Neal hasn't played a single snap. And it's already horrible? With Jolly, most likely, out for a while we're going to need that depth on the line. Raji, Picket, and Jenkins(who has had his injury problems) will be our look. But they cant play every single snap. Depth in our 3-4 is going to be very important on that line.

Free Agency...Well I'm not even going to argue the shoulda, coulda, woulda stuff of the past. Again, you need to stop dwelling on what didn't happen. There was really only one player I was interested in signing this off-season. Ryan Clark. And he opted to stay in Pittsburgh.

It's hard winning a super bowl. It doesn't come easy. But we seem to be on the right path right now. Building our team around one of the brightest players in the league. And building and maintaining a stone wall defense.

Re: Breakout Players

Sometimes my hatrid towards TT blinds my judgment on having an unbiased viewpoint on some of the moves he does make. In other words as far as I'm concerned TT is dead to me. No matter what he does short of the team winning 10 straight Super Bowls, will be good enough. I don't know what it is about him but I just can not stand him. And it didn't start with Favre either, it originated before that whole saga took place. That was just the nail in the coffin.

Re: Breakout Players

I'm not bashing the player in the 2nd round in Mike Neal, I'm bashing the position. When both of your starting CB's are card carrying members of the AARP, I think it's time to start looking for their replacements. I think Javier Arenas was still on the board then. If not then just take the best available CB as there were still plenty. I figured he would either go Jerry Hughes or Kyle Wilson in the 1st round.

Al Harris is pretty much done (hope he proves me wrong), as a matter of fact the only reason he is still on the team is because we didn't draft a CB high in the draft imo. As for Woodson he only has 2 maybe 3 good years left in the tank. Definitely should have gone CB in round 2, or any point in the draft for that matter.

Re: Breakout Players

Currently our depth at the position goes:

Woodson
Harris
Williams
Bush(slash player, probably will play more special teams than anything)
Bell(probably will be cut)
Underwood
Lee
Shields(return specialist)
Then most likely cut, or practice squad guys in these two..
Clark
Ford

I think we're fine at the position. Unless we were getting first round talent at CB, it was not of high priority.

Unless Woodson or Harris give us serious reason to be concerned, theres no real immediate need to replace them.

Re: Breakout Players

Devin Mccourty as well. While i was pissed when the pats didnt draft wilson instead of mccourty, we struggled on special teams last year and mccourty was really the 3 or 4th best corner in the draft.

He had 6 blocked kicks in college

6 intereceptions

2 Kick Returns for TD

2 Punt Returns for TD

So I would say break out year on special teams.

I'm gonna go with either Wake, Hartline, or Henne for us.

Around the league, I'll say Louis Murphy, Louis Delmas, Austin Collie, Keith Rivers, Brian Orakpo (even more), and Ray Rice. He has so much pressure off him now that Boldin is there.

Re: Breakout Players

I'm expecting a Pro Bowl caliber season from Alex Smith and Michael Crabtree this season. Manny Lawson and Taylor Mays are always great candidates to break out this season.
