The Dolphins have traded OG Justin Smiley to the Jaguars in exchange for an undisclosed late-round pick, pending a physical.
The Dolphins planned to release Smiley if they couldn't trade him by May 28, so we suspect they only received a seventh-round pick. Smiley's physical is key, as reports have suggested his oft-surgically repaired shoulder is hanging by a thread. If healthy, though, the 28-year-old is still an asset. Good move for the Jags if he passes the physical. A 7th round pick is worth it to ensure some other team doesn't grab him off waivers. This gives them good insurance to let Nwaneri move to C or shuffle up the interior OL to get the best three on the field.

Yup, they're trying to phase out Meester so this could help.

Justin Smiley passed his physical Tuesday, completing the Jaguars trade with the Dolphins.
The South Florida Sun-Sentinel suggested that reports of Smiley's shoulder being "shot" were exaggerated, so it's not really a shock that he passed his physical. The 28-year-old will likely slot in at left guard for the Jags, pushing Uche Nwaneri to center. Declining veteran Brad Meester may be out of job.
