You know that you are a world class dog, when Deangelo Hall has your back.

From ESPN.Com article.

"Cornerback DeAngelo Hall was one of the few willing to publicly empathize with Haynesworth, saying that "promises were made" about the way Haynesworth would be used when the contract was signed.
Still, even Hall conceded that Haynesworth is all about Haynesworth.
"We know Albert's going to do what he wants to do," Hall said, "whether it's going to benefit him, benefit the team, or if it's a stupid idea or a good idea, he's going to do what he's going to do. It's kind of hard to change his mind."

Know DeAngelo going to have his back, because last year Albert came and helped him out when the Falcons coach was about to jump on top of DHall, and AL was the only Redskins to come help him out. Also in the Giants game when Brandon Jacobs flung DHall around like a ragdoll, Haynesworth was there to help him out...So I see why he has his back.

He wouldn't make it in the real world, he just likes to live in Al's world. I say release him. There is no penalty this year, so it would be the time to do it.

I mean the Packers did just that for a close to 15 years but when a team investing so much for a certain skill set then want that player to radically change or learn a new skill set then yes. It almost asking LT to play with his hand down because you want or need to run a 4-3. There are completely different positions.

So, what if he did play the good soldier and play NT. He comes away with less tackles and sacks the next step is for management to "redo" is contract. NT is on of the most under appreciated position in football. You don't get sacks and you don't get tackles you just occupy to linemen and let your lbs run to the ball. Why and I mean why did Shanny think he was going to change his position?

The 3-4 puts better athletes on the field to cover modern offenses...you can still blitz for pressure or drop the extra LB into coverage. You really can't do that with your typical 4-3 DT.

It's why I'm obsessed with learning more and more about the 3-3-5...seems a direction that's aimed to slow down the pass and force teams back to the run.
but when your team don't have those olbs it doesn't make sense to change your scheme because when you change your scheme you need to change your personnel.

Re: Haynesworth = no show at mincamp

But to play devil's advocate here Grunt, what about Jay Ratliff? He's a NT, an undersized one at that, yet the Cowboys 3-4 actually has it where he IS the attacker instead of merely a space eater. The guy had an All Pro type season last year from a position that generally doesn't yield a lot of stats. The defensive scheme there uses his abilities to his best and works around him, who's to say that the Nolan 3-4 won't adapt to the players, especially considering Big Al is a peerless talent in this league - his work ethic and desire are another topic.

I understand Haynesworth isn't happy, but at the same time, he took the contract knowing full well what the NFL is; he's a vet, it's not like roster and coaching shape-ups are new to him. On top of that, he took the $20 million roster bonus in April EVEN THOUGH the Redskins organization specifically told him to facilitate a trade before hand or show up to camp. He took the money, now he needs to be a professional and report for work.

Not all 3-4 play the same. Wade play a one gap 3-4 so Rat is not the traditional 2 gap nose tackle but the majority of the 3-4 playing now use 2 gap NTs. If Rat tried to play a 2 gap he is not big nor strong enough and the strength of Rat is the pass rush/penetration and not run defense.

The money he took in April was money that owed to him based on his original contract according to the NFL network. Now, the real issue even if he wanted to play a 2 gap NT if would be effective in the NEW position. I seen big 4-3 tackles get moved to a 3-4 2 gap NT and fail. They are usually gone the next year because the team will draft that short/stout/powerful 2 gap NT or over pay in free agency.
