Re: JaMarcus Russell arrested

It's been close to ten years since it was publicized and has been popular for a long time before that.

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)

How? Even when he was drafted people were questioning whether he would do the off-field stuff that would make him a great quarterback. There's a difference between a guy like him, who had questions back when he was in college, and a guy like Ryan Leaf who has supposed to be ready for the NFL.

Re: JaMarcus Russell arrested

I think the only reason people better quantify Leaf's bust status as being the worst (or best in this case?) is the juxtaposition to the success of Manning. IMO, Russell is the worst mainly because he did nothing with himself. He showed no motivation, no maturity, no sense of wanting to be a good teammate, no fire, no competitive nature, no willingness to keep himself in any shape whatsoever, nothing. He simply took the money and sat on it.

Well, just based on because he went number 1 overall and was paid sooo much, not on subjective stuff.

Well then you could say that Alex Smith is the biggest bust ever too but like Russell, people knew that he had issues that could affect his success.

My issue with the Manning comparisons is that Leaf was picked after Manning. It's not like San Diego had an option.

Charles Woodson was the only other legit stud chosen in the top 20 of that draft.

On the other hand, in the 13 picks following Russell you have arguably the top tackle, running back, cornerback, and linebacker in the league and a great player in Calvin Johnson.

Smith is no where near as bad as Russell. Russell had arguably the worst season ever for a starting quarterback last year.

Smith's worst season by far was his rookie year. He actually had a decent season last year.

They both equally sucked. Guess the question that answers who the bigger bust was is who depleted more of their organization's resources?

I think Leaf was the bigger bust because SD gave up two firsts, a 2nd, and Eric Metcalf + paid him a rookie deal for 4 wins and 14 losses.
