Re: 16 or 18 Games?

I can't remember what I was watching, it might have been NFL Nework or a preseason game, but the commentators, one of which was around when the schedule went from 14-16, noted that there wasn't this kind of uproar from the players or anyone about the extra two games. I know that the game was still growing then from a monetary and television standpoint, but if the players are voicing their concern then I think that has to be taken into account.

There's already enough injuries for me at this point which has led to the league trying to legislate every big hit, which has already given me the feeling of watered down football.

The 1st game= a few series, the 2nd= 1st quarter, the 3rd= first half & maybe a series or two in the 3rd, the 4th= none at all. Maybe if they expand the practice squad so when a player goes down they have players in the system learning the play book. We will have 18 games in 2012 because 2011 will not happen.
It's a completely different league now. For example the shelf life on RB's has probably been cut in half since they went from 14 to 16 games. Guy's are bigger, faster, and stronger and two extra games is way more punishment on the body than back then.

I also don't want the season starting in mid-August when temperatures are STILL in the 100s. Just not "football" to me.

Eighteen games throws any existing statistical records out the window.

Just another reason I'm not for 18 games. Why fix something that's not broken?

Oh yeah. Money.

Re: 16 or 18 Games?

I don't like the 18 game schedule. Most every reason has been posted already, but injuries is the biggest, IMO. Anyone see how many injuries the Colts picked up last night? % players got hurt, and that was in less than 3 quarters of a preseason game. With 18 regular season games, I think we'd be watching mostly 2nd and 3rd stringers in the last few games. Nothing like watching Dan Orlavsky, Jerimah Jones, and David Anderson out there trying to clinch a playoff berth for the Texans in week 19.

Also, I don't like the thought of all of the records going down the drain. Basically any single season record is guaranteed to be broken. We'll see 5,000 yard passers and 2,000 yard rushers at a much higher rate.

Re: 16 or 18 Games?

i would consider 18 if they upped the 53 man rosters to 63 , allowed 58 guys to dress, shorten preseason, but also make training camp mandatory only for rookies one week earlier and vets go the following week giving camp 4 weeks three weeks total team, and one rookies only. Rookie slot for money. so they can report to camp on time.

They will start the season in September even with two less preseason games.
