Commercials Are Driving Me Crazy, Can't They Just Make Halftime Longer?

During a game yesterday they had this sequence:

3rd Down Play, End of Quarter........Commercial.......Field Goal......Commercial......Kickoff.......Commerical .

3 Plays and 3 Commercial breaks!

College football has a longer halftime, but the NFL's halftime feels like a blur.

I would rather see a longer NFL halftime where they can keep playing commercials and have a better flow to the game.

And this is why I start watching the 1pm games at 2:15-2:30 so I can skip through all of that....

It's been like that since, ohhh I'd say 1997. I was watching a Jets game from that year and that was the structure pretty much. Although back then there was still some leeway and it wasn't so commercial heavy. I think where this format took hold was around 2000.

As to your point about halftime, I dunno, this week it seemed halftime was a lot longer for some reason. "shrug"

That's why the players make [tens of] millions and the owners are largely billionaires.

Seriously, I always chuckle when I hear talk about expanding replay and the excuse "but we don't want to interfere with the flow of the game". I take that to mean they (the league and owners) don't want to have to surrender scheduled tv time outs.

Talking about the Pats game right? The commercials were long breaks too. I think CBS was getting worried because of how fast the game was going. With the 18 play drive by the Pats and the Chargers having a long drive of their own, the game was on pace to possibly be over at or before 7:00.

Honestly, with so many commercial breaks the players should never get winded.

This is part of the reason why I like watching soccer on tv and football not so much. It's even worse being at the game and seeing the guy with the red jacket on the field all the time. At least at home I can change the channel.

Well actually its CBS whose raking in on that. They've already paid the NFL a large sum, and are now making money off the advertising. They're going to cram as much advertising in as they can, and make a fiendish amount of money doing it because this is when they have their most viewers.
