Randy Moss would, more than likely, still be a Patriot right now had he not done all of the talking he did through the end of training camp until the trade, and he would've been let go in the off-season. The team, after Moss repeatedly said he wouldn't be back next season AND asked for a trade AND said 'no' to talking about an extension during training camp, decided it would be better from a business standpoint to trade him and add another pick than have an unhappy, unmotivated Moss on their team and lose him for free in the off-season.

SO yes, it was a business standpoint as everyone has said, but it wasn't a "Hey, you know, I think trading Randy Moss for a 3rd round pick sounds like the perfect idea for our team at this moment, so let's do it" spur the moment kind of business decision. It was brought on by Moss being vocal about his desire to leave and how unimportant he felt.
Perfectly stated, except I think it was more the amount of money needed to make him feel "important" than just the comments we heard that he responded to.

The thing is, though, Moss was approached by the front office during training camp to talk about an extension and he said no. That's something ESPN never talked about, but ESPNBoston had an article with comments from Kraft about how Randy said "They'd deal with it after the season" or something, and then proceeded to bitch about how he felt unwanted and unimportant and all of that.

Glad you think that was perfectly stated, though. You and I never seemed to agree a year or two ago in any football thread.

We didn't? I probably was stating something and wasn't being clear... happens all too often.

I still think it was about money. If I'm not mistaken, the talk about not being appreciated came after Brady was given his new contract, didn't it? I think Moss mentioned something about the contract before then, but just to stop the crap the media was "assuming". Then I don't think he said anything until after Brady got paid (my guess is, he assumed he wouldn't get rewarded the same way... a correct assumption and for good reason).

I'm not exactly sure the timeline but he I do know he said something along the lines of I don't expect to be back next year because New England doesn't pay or something like that during the off-season well before Brady got his contract.

That's just being honest... and would help explain why he felt unappreciated when Brady got a big deal. Gotta love the diva WRs.

I still think they would've gladly gave him a new contract after this season, especially with some help from Mr. Brady since they were BFFs.
