The person who came up with the system wrote an explanation about it 2 years ago. I tried using Football Outsiders to into it more, but the player pages only go back to 2007.

Some interesting Revis numbers:

According to Pro Football Focus, Revis was thrown at 111 times for a QB Rating of 32.0. That's amazing, especially cosidering he was covering the best in the league.

According to Football Outsiders, Revis was targted 96 times for 3.9 Yds/Att. last year and they claim he played so well that if these offensive players played at his level, this is what would result:

"Football Outsiders "Revisized" other players' stats to put his season in context: "A player playing at Revis' level while getting a comparable usage rate at a different position in 2009 would have set the NFL passing record by nearly 500 yards, beat out Jerry Rice for the single-season receiving record or run for 2,000 yards while averaging a record-tying 6.4 yards per carry."
Peyton Manning's "Revisized" season would have given him 5,532 passing yards. Brandon Marshall would have gained 1,922 receiving yards"

The thing that made Revis special last year was that he always followed the opposing team's #1 WR around. That's why other CBs can't lay claim to shutting down guys like Johnson, Moss, Smith, etc.

Some credit has to go to Rex Ryan though. The Jets' blitz scheme is special and has definitely helped Revis out.

The only corner I think that is better is Nnamdi Asomugha. He was only targeted 27 times last year. That's unbelievable.

That's right, they both had spectacular seasons in different ways. Nnandi generally stayed on the same side, so teams didn't have to send their best WR his way. Teams had to throw at Revis or else they would lose their top WR.
