I am cool with being call Scott too. Tom is a cool dude. I met him a few times. We were at the same charity banquets in the Bay Area. But this was about five years ago.

I call almost every athlete by their last name. I thought that was common practice.

A lot of the elite players in sports I call by their first name. Like Kobe, LeBron, Shaq, Tiger, Peyton, etc. I think it's mainly because those names are more unique/less common and you know who they are. A name like Tom is a common name. If I go up to some guy in a sports bar and say "did you see that game Tom had yesterday?" He may not know who I'm talking about. If I say Kobe or LeBron or Tiger, he'll instantly know who I'm referring to. Pretty much every lesser known player, I do call by their last names.

It's pretty sad that half of this thread is about this conversation, and not the game.
