NFL Could Change How It Seeds Playoff Teams Starting in 2011.

Once again, the NFL is messing with something that doesn't need to be fixed or tweaked or updated SMH:

Quote:
It usually takes an attention-grabbing event to change the NFL rulebook.
Last year’s Saints-Vikings NFC Championship helped change the overtime rules, at least for the playoffs. Falcons president and co-chair of the NFL Competition Committee Rich McKay hopes that the current state of the NFC West forces the league to change its playoff seeding methods starting in 2011.
“I’ve brought it up twice and never had real success getting it passed,” McKay told NFL Network’s Jason La Canfora. “I think it something we should consider.”
McKay said he supports re-seeding spots 3-6 by record, with division winners not necessarily granted a home game. (Division winners would be guaranteed a playoff spot at any record.) He’s come close to getting the measure passed before, with upwards of 18 votes supporting the idea. 24 owners would need to approve the measure to pass it.
Perhaps having the first 7-9 playoff team in NFL history could inspire such a change. It’s almost enough to make us root for the Chiefs, Falcons, Panthers, and Chargers this week.

I don't see anything wrong with the proposal.

I like it.

I think a guaranteed Playoff spot is incentive enough for winning a division.

I don't like it. Winning the division has to mean something other than a playoff spot. If they're going to do this, they should combine teams into 2 8-team divisions while preserving the home and home for current division members. Winner of each division gets a bye, and have 4 wild cards per conference.

Win a division = hosting a home game.

Don't punish the team that took care of it's business in it's division and another team didn't.

It happens ONE time possibly(where a below .500 team wins the division)and all of a sudden it's "OH NOOOOZZZZZ!!! WE GOTTA FIX THIS!!! THIS IS AN OUTBREAK!!!! ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111111!!!!!!!!!!!!". It's ridiculous.

I'd actually be fine with that. But I'm not a big traditionalist, so...

I don't know why you insist on being so arbitrary.

I think going to the playoffs is more than enough of a reward for the absolutely terrible NFC West winner.
