I feel that it could have happened, and I would have understood. I understand this decision too. I mean, the way that the team has collapsed in last two years could have been reason enough to dismiss JDR, but I think WW made a good decision by waiting in this regard.

I think WW made the right decision. Shack Harris left the team in such bad shape with talent that it would be unfair to put the full blame on JDR. I also imagine that Gene Smith had quite a bit of input so that alone satisfies me.

Word is Harbaugh will not go to Michigan. It's either stay at Stanford or go to the NFL. If the 49ers whiff at him the fan base is going to go crazy.
