I believe he was more of a one-gapper at Auburn where he could penetrate. He lost weight in the offseason to get down to about 304, a weight at which he has been devastating, but I think that's a bit light to play the nose.

For reference, Garay, the NT that Rivera had in San Diego played at 320.
Rivera said in his presser yesterday he is sticking with 4-3, with an situational 3-4 as a wrinkle.

Now I like that even better with this roster instead of totally junking the 4-3. The few times I did see the Panthers this year, they played pretty tough on that side of the ball, but seemed to wear down if you could keep them on the field. Making the looks a little more dynamic, like Gregg Williams pulling the 3-4 out of nowhere for a quarter or two can wreak havoc with an opponent's preparation. I think the Panthers have the athletes to make this work in the same manner, instead of a wholesale one year change, which they may do eventually. I think the Redskins would have been a lot better this year taking the same approach.

If nothing else, I expect that defense to be fun to watch next year.

Honestly after watching the Panthers this year an seeing their final statistical ranking the Panthers could have been a 7-9 team this year if they got anything out of the passing game. Their defense is pretty good an was right their with the Bucs an Falcons. They had statistically the best run game in the division they just need to get something from their QB.

People think: Julius Peppers as an OLB in a 3-4 defense.

Sigh.

Cower, why didn't you come last year?

It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.

Peppers wanted out of Carolina regardless. The thought of him as an OLB is drool worthy, but realistically it wasn't gonna happen in CAR.

I think that was because of Fox though honestly. There is a reason we never could get noteworthy FAs over here. Who wouldn't want to play under Cower?

Cowher never wanted to coach the Panthers. People just assumed so because he lived here.
