And that means?

That INT stat would even make elite guys look average. But they arent Eli though so its not the same right?

P Manning 7/13 years with 15+ ints 5 times in his first 7 years, twice 20+
D Brees 6/10 years with 15+ ints 4 times in his first 7 years, once 20+
D Marino 10/17 years with 15+ ints 5 times in his first 7 years, four 20+
B Favre 14/20 years with 15+ ints 2 in first 7, six 20+

I could go on and on. That "alot of picks" stat is vapid. Alot of guys throw alot of picks.

Ill give you the 20+ int years because that is just unacceptable from good qbs. But they all have done it.

In a pass happy league, it is not unreasonable to throw near 15 ints. Why is that an indictment?

So true lol. It's pretty amazing how bad it is really.

There was one guy that was like "Matt Ryan in the top tier? Against the best defenses in the NFL he only mustered 9 TDs to 4 INTs, and that's only because he throws a lot of short passes. Oh and that game where he completed over 60% of his throws and over 300 yards against one of the best defenses doesn't count because he threw the ball a lot... And that game against Green Bay where he completed 85% of his passes doesn't count because he didn't throw it enough..."

Smh.

You should have known this would be a slobfest for the league top QB's.

Did they talk about how rivers missed top tier and how Ryan made it? I'm curious about this rating

Re: ESPN's New QB Rating

This new QB Rating holds no weight too me. I'll continue to use the eye test. It's never failed the evaluation process in any sport.

This is nothing more than another gimmick to allow ESPN to feel themselves some more. ESPN has first and goal from the 5 yard line and TMZ is the end zone. It's become nothing more then glorified social media that happens to show sporting events.

Well fourth quarter performance was one of the areas that could really raise or lower the rating. Ryan's fourth quarter comebacks was probably the reason for him getting in the top tier.

They didn't actually mention teirs (outside of saying that 75+= mvp caliber season while the 60's would be probowl and 50 was where average ended). Also from what I remember Ryan had a rating of like 69.7 or something like that while rivers was 66-67 so it wasn't a big difference. Brady's for last year was 76 (which was a lot higher than the second place qb). Rodgers playoff run ended up with an 86 so that should give you some idea how well you have too play to get really high numbers.

The system also takes into account the distance the ball travels through the air before being caught. Example being a 5 yard slant that goes for 50 yards is not equal to a perfectly placed 50 yard bomb.

The rating system was interesting especially for mobile qb's as it factors in their rushing yards (and the situation (down, distance, yards gained, etc.) to which the yards are accumulated under). The only issue I saw with it was that some of the factors are subjective and may vary from person to person.
