before the 2005 draft people said Leinart was the best since Manning then after his senior season and more extensive study they didnt say that anymore but it was said and often when there was a possibility of him entering the 05 draft as the #1.

Quote:
When Leinart came back for his senior season after throttling Oklahoma in the Orange Bowl, it seemed like a conscious emulation of Peyton Manning, the college star who stayed in school for four years, got picked No. 1 in the draft, and made bushels of cash while setting records in the NFL. Heck, Leinart was a new, improved Peyton Manning—the former University of Tennessee QB never won the national title or the Heisman Trophy. Now, six months after deciding to finish up at USC, Leinart looks more like Jason White or Danny Wuerffel—a gutsy Heisman winner who doesn't have the physical ability to succeed when the guys on defense get bigger and faster.

And people thought Reggie Bush was the next big time playmaker, moving on.

That's a comparison to Manning's situation not Manning's talent.

This was written by Rick Gosselin, Pro Football Hall of Fame writer

Quote:
Leinart may be the most NFL-ready quarterback to hit a draft board since Peyton Manning in 1998. Manning is a two-time NFL MVP for Indianapolis.

Just because he's a HOF writer doesn't make him anymore right and he's STILL not comparing their talent

Hell, he also said Reggie Bush is the most dynamic runner since Barry Sanders and AJ Hawk was the most gifted LBer since 1990 so yeah

But anyone with a brain could easily tell you that Leinart and Manning had NOTHING in common as far as ability goes, especially while he was at SC.
