Week 3: Jacksonville Jaguars (1-1) at Carolina Panthers (0-2)

Ladies and gentlemen, we have a new starting quarterback for your Jacksonville Jaguars. Blaine Gabbert is taking the start, and GabbertMania is running wild over Jacksonville and the surrounding municipalities.

Honestly, though, if he doesn't make mistakes, we're better off. We'll have to see how Newton plays against our D, especially our pass D. If he torches us for 400, I can't see how we win.

Jaguars: 10
Panthers: 17

I don't know if Newton can throw for 400 yards again but against the Jags' D it's possible. You have to think that he'll eventually win one of those games so now is as good a time as ever.

I'm picking Carolina but it's not my most confident pick ever.

Don't want to change your mind but "not your most confident" and your suicide pick?

The Jags defense is a lot better than last year. Throwing for 400 yards will be hard without a run game. The Jags won't have to worry about the run game and will be able to rush the QB. If Cox isn't back, that hurts, but I still think they will be able to keep him from getting 400. The Jags should also be running the ball, unlike last week, so time of possession won't help Newton get 400.

I'm starting to think about making the 3-hour drive down to Charlotte (by myself, mind you) to watch this game (again, by myself). I mean, this could be pretty historic, watching Gabbert vs Newton.

Do I dare?

I'm trying the new strategy (for me at least) of picking off all the "lesser" teams and going with the marquee teams on the back end.
