Is Fred Jackson maybe a Top10 back based on the season's first 3 weeks? Sure.

Is the season 3 weeks long....? Nope.
I think these guys are very debateable, and Mendenhall, Gore, and DeAngelo all look far worse at the moment.

Re: Fred Jackson

Man there is some ***** action going on in here. All Jackson has done in his career is outperform top-drafted running backs time and again. All the Bills have done prior to this year is try to ignore how good he is (which it seems like a lot of the dudes in this thread are doing as well).

He is a top 10 RB. The Bills should pay him. He isn't slowing down.

Pay Fitzpatrick and Johnson, too. We have plenty of cap room.

Add Arian Foster and Peyton Hillis to that list too. They have proved probably less then Jackson has in their time in the league. Yeah, big years last year, but let's see how this season goes.

I don't think you can rate RB's like you rate QB's because the talent level is a lot more even. I think you've got the elite in Peterson, Johnson, Jones-Drew, and Turner (possibly Charles but he's out now), then from there the rest are all very good (with McFadden, McCoy, and Ray Rice set to take over).

Basically, if you have Jackson, you're pretty happy about it. He hasn't put up the otherworldly numbers that the best of the backs do, but he's going to give you 4.5 yards per carry and about 35-40 receptions.

Agreed. Jackson's gotta do better than barely reaching 1000 yards though, but it looks like he's going to do that easily this year.

Remember that he has been sharing carries and even returning kicks.

Quote:
In 2009, after winning the starting job from Lynch in Week 12, Jackson eclipsed the 1,000-yard rushing mark for the first time in his career with 1062 yards and 2 touchdowns. He also set a career high in catches with 46 for 371 yards and 2 more scores and also completed a 27-yard touchdown pass. Jackson also had 1014 kickoff return yards making him the first player in NFL history to compile 1000 rushing and kickoff return yards. The 2,516 combined yards are the fourth highest total in NFL history

Re: Fred Jackson

Well in no particular order I'd put these guys ahead of him:

Adrian Peterson
Chris Johnson
Maurice Jones-Drew
Matt Forte
Ray Rice
Darren McFadden
Cedric Benson
LeSean McCoy
Michael Turner
Stephen Jackson
Rashard Mendenhall

And say he's somewhere at or below these guys
Arian Foster
Frank Gore
Peyton Hillis
Ahmad Bradshaw
LeGarrette Blount

So yeah he's still in that 10-15 range to me. Is he off to a great start, and could that change after this season? Of course. And keep in mind he did that against 3 of the worst rushing defenses in the NFL.

Yeah but last year was pretty underwhelming too.

He did all he could do when he got the ball. He had 100 less carries than most of the backs people put on their lists of dudes they think are better than him.

Again, the Bills didn't really make the best decisions.
