Farve is just working on his Namath impression, someone has to play the role of embarrassing elder statesmen for the packers and who better...

Thought he gave that up after the pictures and threatened law suit.

I didn't hear anything but an honest compliment from Farve. When I listened to it, it sounded sincere and not backhanded at all.

As a Packer fan, I already forgave Favre the moment this season started. I know his personal life has been a huge joke the past few years but it's hard to ignore what he did in Green Bay. He took us to our first playoff berth in 18 seasons (non-strike years anyways.) He started every game for 15-16 seasons and only failed to have a winning season one time and he did bring home the Lombardi trophy as well.

If Favre returned to Green Bay right now to have his Jersey retired, I would welcome him home with open arms.

If this is the case and he's trying to be sincere then he really isn't that bright of a guy. Those definitely sounded like shots at Rodgers to me.

I can't believe we're talking about Favre again. Please go away. Please. Go throw footballs to high school kids in Mississippi or something.

Spoiler

Well, okay, the verdict seems to be much ado about nothing. Lord Farve meant no harm.

I can dig it, but just my humble opinion, I wouldn't have taken it as a compliment if I were Rodgers. It's definitely possible Favre meant not harm, but if you are going to compliment someone, then there shouldn't be a need to qualify it?

"What Aaron and that team did last year, with so many players on IR was incredible."

vs.

"Well, he fell into a good situation. He had the opportunity to sit behind me (future HOF) and learn. He's a good player, but I'm just surprised he didn't win it sooner given the talent around him."

Just a hypothetical, but I'd take those two statements completely differently. One is a compliment, the other comes off with a totally different subtext. You did good, but it wasn't all that special because of what you've got around you. Given the past nature of their relationship, Favre is savvy enough know that would be picked apart.

I believe the fans would no doubt embrace him. He's still synonymous with GB.

Agreed, and I wouldn't expect Rodgers to take it as a compliment either. Even though I personally think it was meant as a compliment, I wouldn't expect Rodgers to take it that way. I still remember the stories of people complimenting Michael Jordan and him twisting it any way he could to find something bad in it so that he would have something to prove.
