Favre on Rodgers: "Da eff took you so long to win a Super Bowl?"

I saw this circulating late last night. Apparently, Brett isn't all that impressed that Rodgers helped the Packers to the title in just his 3rd year as a starter. He thinks it should have been sooner, given the table that was already set for him.

Pure comedy:

Quote:
He's got tremendous talent, he's very bright and he got a chance to watch and see successful teams do it right. And so, he just kind of fell into a good situation. On top of that, he's a good player. I don't think there's any pressure on him now, the talent around him is even better than when I was there. So I'm really kind of surprised it took him so long.

I don't know what to think. Does he have a point? If Rodgers doesn't turn to ball over in overtime against the Cards, is that their year? And Brett did have some year in Green Bay after Holmgren where they weren't stocked with incredible talent, and he kept them in contending for playoff spots when they should have been an afterthought.

Personally, I don't know how anyone takes issue with the job Rodgers has done so far. Part of me wants to look at this as Brett just being candid about the situation -- which is kind of refreshing. But honestly, he just looks like the bitter old man who's time has passed. It's got to be tough when you've lived so long as a Demigod in the hearts of arguably the greatest fanbase in sports, to now being a mere mortal and seeing the guy they brought in to replace you take that spot.

And I got a question to Pack fans. I fully expected Favre to be welcomed back into your open arms despite the Purple Betrayal after enough time had passed -- and with him keeping his mouth shut long enough -- but does something like this make you re-evaluate him? Can you look at him the same again, or does the pettiness he showed at the end forever diminish him?

Favre is so full of bitterness.

So, basically Favre is responsible for Rodgers success? Haha!

Rodgers will probably surpass Favre in rings this year, so then what is he going to say?

No, end of story. Favre's good teams generally had a defense. I don't think there's anything Rodgers could have further done in that Cardinals game.

Favre feels threatened that Rodgers is going to surpass his legacy with another Super Bowl win, so he's making these little comments when he can. When you get Favre and the media in the same room, something's getting blown out of proportion. He actually did have some good words about Rodgers.

I found the rest of his comments to actually be very complimentary of Rodgers.

He got into hot water with the "What took so long" comment, though.

Who cares what Favre has to say? They need to block all forms of communication from his Mississippi ranch or wherever he is. Just prevent him from having any communication from the outside world.

I don't know what the context or anything was, but it seemed to me more like Brett was basically saying he wasn't surprised that they won a Super Bowl, not that Rodgers choked his first two years and got in the way or anything like that.

The whole thing seemed the definition of a backhanded compliment to me. Might be reading it wrong, but it seems like a subtle way to slight the run Rodgers had through the playoff by saying, "Well, look at the team around him. Why didn't he do it sooner?"

Sometimes word in print don't do it justice. Here's the audio:
