That rule is bull****. Once the at is out of bounds the play should be over an it shouldn't matter if he holds on. If he held on while in bounds then that's all that should matter.

Why is it if someone's running in for a touchdown the ball just has to cross the goal line so they could lose it immediately after they cross yet this isn't a catch...

Similar to the Calvin play last year. Burleson jumps and catches the ball, takes 3 steps, then trips and loses the ball as he rests it on the ground out of bounds.
