Indianapolis is on the Clock

Indy is about to go 0-8. If they end up with the first overall pick what would you do if you were the GM?

Personally I think Peyton Manning, pending a healthy neck, has more than 4 years of solid football left in him. Andrew Luck is a once in a lifetime QB prospect and teams will probably fall all over themselves to get him. What should the call be?

I would trade the first round pick for a boatload of picks and/or current players to arm Peyton for a few more years.

What are your thoughts?

This. I just don't think it's fair on Peyton. I know it's a business, but one injured season? People (By people I mean media), make it sound like Peytons career is over. Nothings changed. Peyton, as you said, has 4-5 years left in him.

I don't think it's as simple as taking Luck.

Agreed. There is never a sure fire thing in the NFL. Luck appears to be as close to that as there can be, but there is no guarantee he will be.

Peyton's style of play and the line protection throughout his career should keep him playing longer than most QB's. The wild card is the condition with his neck. If that is something that does not heal completely than he wont last much longer.

It will be very telling if Indy does draft Luck or a top flight QB in the draft. That would tell me that the medical report on Peyton going forward is not promising.

Trade Manning for more high draft picks, this year and down the road.

The fact is that Manning may NEVER return from this surgery. And even if he does he may well be very injury prone.

And with how the Colts have been playing, it's time to go into rebuild phase. Their aging all over the place, it's time to trade some players who can contend the next couple years and are willing to give up good draft picks.

Then in 3-5 years we can see the Colts back at the top.

We had a triple digit post count thread about this very same topic last month. I am on my phone right now so I can't be bothered to look for it, but I assure you that it's there.
