there are too many teams now. besides overall revenue, i think there is zero point to expanding.

More than anything that's why they can expand. The NFL has never been more popular, as prime time games and the Super Bowl keep beating their own viewership records over and over and over.

I agree. The talent pool in the NFL is so dilluted right now where pretty much any team is one or two injuries away from being done. The depth at certain positions isnt what it used to be.

In this age of parity in the NFL there are truly no more great teams, just good to very good teams. Adding more teams adds over another 100 roster spots and now you have guys that are now 2nd stringers starting on other teams.

IMO it would be a bad idea to expand to more than 32 teams.

There is no rule stating that the NFL will always be the #1 sport.

Over exposure can certainly be an issue. Always leave people wanting more, not less.

There's also supply and demand. If the demand is there, you increase the supply. And as far as the diluting the league issue, the same argument could've been made at any previous expansion. The fact is, those expansions worked great, as the league is bigger and better than ever. I don't see how expanding to two more would be any different.

Let's remember, the alternative is ripping a team away from a market. If it can be avoided, it should be. It's bad PR, and you risk permanently losing a market.

...and then the Packers have a ton of people on IR and win the Super Bowl.

...and then 2 QBs go down in Houston and Yates shows that he could possibly start for a team if he was the focus, got an offseason, etc.

You could probably do the above for 100s of players in a league of 1700. More teams means more opportunities. Franchises like the Packers and Patriots that are built to win over time are more durable than those seeking just to build a team and win now within a perceived window (like the Raiders).

The Chiefs were 'done' and still ended up a game or two from winning their division.

IMO talk of a diluted talent pool is a myth. Playoff parity has been really consistent for a long time. Well built franchises can handle the injuries, poorly built teams cannot.

Re: NFL Considering Expansion

NFL quality talent does not grow on trees, and if you expand, you water everything down, which could seriously harm the quality of the game.

This season there were some games almost unwatchable. A lot of bad football being played by teams in the bottom of the league. Hell, you could argue that was some bad football being played in the playoffs. The talent pool is already stretched thin. More teams makes for a worse quality of football.

Nascar expanded when they were at the top of their game. They added races and eventually people got sick of it. Now you see stands not even full anymore. Im not saying that would happen in the NFL but anytime you over expose something people love, you risk driving people away.

Good point...but NASCAR has also suffered through some horrible leadership too...but yeah too much of something (even football) is bad.
