Re: Potential 2012 Rule Changes

I don't think refs are getting worse, actually. I think we have more camera angles and ability to see things zoomed in and slowed down while the game is faster and rules are changing constantly.

There's a fine line between wanting every single call right and understanding that it's not a video game and there has to be a human element to making calls. There are bad refs and bad reffed games, but overall I think people jump on them too much. Bad calls will never completely disappear. It's part of the game... every sport.

Re: Potential 2012 Rule Changes

I can live with small things missed and let go, it's the game changing calls I want reviewed. Missed TD's, wrongly called TD's, stuff like that that could change the outcome significantly. I know every TD is reviewed now which I support, but there are many plays ruled no good when it should have been a TD or 1st down that the refs don't even give a second thought too.

I don't ask the refs to be perfect, but do their best in tight situations that have significant outcomes.

I agree... I like the replay system. I like the college replay system so I'm behind all that's being presented.

But I'm also ok with limiting how far that goes for the sake of dead air and games being longer. It's just a fine line I guess.

Speaking of game changing plays... one other thing I remember being mentioned shortly after the season, I think there was talk of extending the 'automatic replay on scoring plays' to plays within the 5 or 20 or something, so that plays that are erroneously ruled not a TD (so aren't automatically reviewed) are then able to be reviewed without a coaches challenge. That was a problem in a number of games this past season.

Outside of maybe turnovers, I don't see the need for any automatic replays between the 20s, ever, unless they get it down to an art and every play of every game is seamlessly reviewed.

Yes, we sometimes get that situation as it is now but not all the time when it seemed that 90% of the reviews back then took at least double digit minutes.

I like the OT, kicking the loose ball and allowing replays on turnover ideas and would like to see those implemented.
The technology and number of cameras focused on the game are light years ahead of those days of replay. I don't see the delays being anywhere close to that long.

They are for the #1 game, but not for the rest of the games. The NFL needs to force teams to install cameras around the stadium so they have all angles covered. The only issue with that is it opens up more Spygate concerns.

Probably a dead horse, but the OT rules aren't necessary still and only serve to confuse the audience.

They are only confusing because they aren't the same year round IMO.
