NFL Rules Players Must Wear Knee/Thigh Pads Starting 2013

I'm sure some skill position guys won't like this.

I've seen some of the "pads" that college guys have tried to pass off. They look like folded up napkins, so I'm sure these guys will find ways to work around the rule.

I'm a little surprised though as there doesn't seem to be an epidemic of quad bruises or knee-cap explosions. The NFL has to show it's protecting the players though. It's building its case against the concussion lawsuits with every future rule change.

Meh all the thigh pads do is cushion the hits there, the knee pads help slightly but isn't going to do much structurally to protect the knee or so I felt when I played with them.

Perhaps just to lessen the blow a knee to the head creates. We've seen a few of those happen. It's not always helmet-to-helmet or shoulder-to-helmet.

That's basically what I was going to say. Looking at the pics provided it isn't all that bad. It's certainly a helluva lot less bulky than the knee and thigh pads players wore in the '70s and most of the '80s.

I like it. I remember there used to be a pad for everything from your hip to your butt. Now if only they'd start requiring mouth pieces.
