That would be a good point if Alex Smith hadn't already proved he can win games.

I beg to differ. He can not lose games and he can be a game manager. The only game I've ever see him make winning plays in is the New Orleans game last year.

He's not in the same class of guys as Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, Ben Roethlisberger, Eli Manning, Peyton Manning, Philip Rivers, Drew Brees, Tony Romo, Matt Schaub, or even Cam Newton. All of these guys are capable of willing their teams to victories, some of them more proven than others, some of them more often than others, but all have done it on many occasions.

There's a reason San Francisco tried to move on from Alex Smith, even having made the NFC title game this past year.

I would say San Fransisco proved they can win games with their Defense, and Special Teams while asking Alex Smith not to lose it; last year.

Offensively they ran a lot of gadget/trickery type plays, reverses, throwbacks to try and get their "Shot" plays in, but the bulk of what Alex Smith had to do was take care of the football, and not commit turnovers while getting the ball to Vernon Davis.

Which he did very well no doubt, but I don't think that will fly in the future teams are going to adjust bracketing Vernon Davis, holding him up at the line with inside/out coverage, and will force Alex Smith to make plays to beat them vertically on the outside.

I think if the 49ers are to make the next leap up and compete and overtake teams like the Packers, and Giants in the Playoffs when everything is on the line they need Alex Smith to rise up into the upper echelon of QBs and show he can carry the Offense week in, and week out. (I do think the Saints game was an aberration, and not the norm of what to expect from him until he proves otherwise.)

Haha I hope your not talking about my comment. I wasn't high on the Eagles going into last year because I was very concerned about line play and the ability to stop the run.

Homer time!

If the Lions stay healthy and get their heads out of their arses, they would be the best team in the NFC. There is so much talent up and down the roster.

However, I imagine they will be a young, undisciplined but still damn entertaining team to watch.
