16 Team Playoffs?

To some extent it's good so a team doesn't get screwed. We could be looking at a 8-8 NFC east winner with two (maybe even three?) 9-7 teams missing out or a 10-6 even.

To another extent...no.

I agree with the majority that this would be a terrible idea.

Seems like the current playoff seeding system is perfectly balanced. Having half of the League make the Playoffs really waters down the entire system, and it makes the Regular season games less meaningful. Lowers the importance of Divisional games, as you could bank just as much on making one of the wild card spots.

If they do go with an extended format they would have to decrease the number of regular season games to balance it out, would be redundant for teams within each Division to play each other twice. We already know the League won't do that.

Just another marketing strategy from Goodell and his cronies to milk more revenue for the League's pockets.

14 playoff teams doesn't scare me. Less than half, and works in football due to the one game a week and bye weeks that already exist. Top team from each conference is rewarded with a bye first round of the playoffs. I'd venture to say some teams may want to play that "extra" game anyway, we've seen a team with a bye first round get knocked out a lot recently it seems. And adds that extra game and team (well, 2 total) that I'm sure the NFL wants.

I liken it to the MLB's playoff expansion. Necessary? Nope. Completely ****ed up? Again, no. It's the medium between too much and what we already have.

And lets be honest, we all want more football. This will typically only add that odd 10-6 team that gets left out currently.

I totally see this happening, the more I think about it.

Agreed. A 14 team playoff makes perfect sense. The Giants went 10-6 in 2010 and missed the playoffs. I'm sure others have done it as well and expanding to 14 would eliminate this. I still don't think many 7-9 teams would make the playoffs other than the odd 7-9 division winner who is getting in under the current system anyways.
