I doubt it will happen this season. At 10-4, Garrett is set for at least one more season as the head coach.

Per CSNBayArea

Quote:
The tenure of 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh will reportedly end within two days after San Francisco wraps up the season.

CEO Jed York has decided to part ways with Harbaugh within 24 to 48 hours after the 49ers’ season concludes next Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals, Jay Glazer of Fox Sports reported.

York did not respond Sunday to a request for comment from CSNBayArea.com. Harbaugh is completing the fourth year of the five-year, $25 million contract he signed with the 49ers in 2011.

The University of Michigan has officially reached out to the 49ers, according to the report. When the 49ers brought it to the Harbaugh’s attention, Harbaugh told the 49ers he is undecided about his next step.

Harbaugh is likely to be an attractive coaching possibility for the Raiders and Chicago Bears, if he decides to remain in the NFL. On Sunday, Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross announced coach Joe Philbin will return next season.

The 49ers (7-8) will miss out on the playoffs for the first time under Harbaugh. The 49ers went to the NFC Championship game in each of Harbaugh's first three seasons, including a trip to Super Bowl XLVII, where the 49ers lost to the Baltimore Ravens.

Good luck finding a coach as good as Harbaugh, 49ers.

It is simply amazing to me that he's about to get fired while you don't hear a peep about Jeff Fisher's drive to be right around 8-8 or worse yet again. Teflon Jeff skating by for another year.

I dunno, while I think Harbaugh is a pretty good coach he's also way too mercurial. He strikes me as the kind of guy who'd wear out his welcome within 3 years. I don't like how stubborn he's shown to be by trying to overturn what was a strong winning formula for the Niners with the run game. The sacking of Alex Smith in favor of Kaepernick has also left a bad taste in my mouth especially seeing how Kaep seems to have hit a ceiling whereas Smith may not be a top tier QB but he won't drive you mad the way Kaep does on a weekly basis.

I think York just got tired of the circus that comes with Harbaugh and I have a feeling the Niners will hire someone with a more level headed and calm demeanor. That kind of coach who won't rock the boat too much will be a great benefit for them.

It's not so much Harbaugh getting fired, he WANTS out.

You can't really blame him with the way York/Baalke have railroaded him this year.

What a mess. An absolute mess.
