He'll also be 38 when he's eligible to take his first snap this coming season. Two things we know about Belichick is that

1. He's not loyal to players, he's loyal to winning. All-Pro or not, when you get long in the tooth, your days are numbered in New England.

2. He's from the Parcells school of "going with the hot hand". He wouldn't even be Bill Belichick today if not for following that teaching. He'd be out of the NFL moving furniture somewhere, which is pretty much where he was headed before Drew Bledsoe got hurt.

Am I saying Jimmy Garoppolo is going to take Tom Brady's job? No. In fact, I think Garoppolo is going to be terrible. But at Brady's age, if he were hurt and Garoppolo came in and lit it up, Brady would be in trouble regardless of his past legacy. Generally, Belichick sits or gets rid of players at just the right time; not too old that they can't still be good trade or draft pick bait, but not too young to where he's throwing away a still-viable possible long-term contributor.

Same answer to the question that the OP asked, nope. Do you not remember 2008, when some bum QB won 11 games for the Patriots and they barely missed the playoffs?

Unless Jimmy comes out throwing 4 TD's in all each of the four games Brady is suspended... nah.

I know this is old history but if you watched the Browns '95 A Football Life show you'd know that BB's plan was actually panning out but everything went pear shaped when it was announced in the middle of the season that the team was moving to Baltimore. If the team had stayed the course they probably would've won their division and won a playoff game but as it is, they completely fell apart with the bad publicity and press that was swirling around.

Modell also didn't seem to have the greatest relationship with BB but if they had made the playoffs i'd say BB would've been the first coach of the Ravens.

So no points for the NYG super bowls as DC?

Can you point out some NFL teams that are loyal to players over winning?

I hate him for SB XXV. Of course the plan was to contain the Bills as much as possible but BB was basically all "well if they're going to score might as well let them do it ASAP so the offense can milk the clock".
