What did Jamie Collins do to deserve this?

Yea I have no idea. He has struggled this season after the Houston game and is up after the season. And I have heard that he won't take a discount. This makes no sense to me. And it's actually a compensatory 3rd rounder.

Can the Browns even sign him long term? This is an odd move for both sides.

I'd imagine they would be able to resign him if they wanted to. They have the cap space to sign him. He wants to get paid. And Schefter said he wanted to get Von Miller money at some point. He supposedly turned down a deal that paid him 11M per year.

Edit: Also I'd imagine that the Browns can franchise him after the year is over.

Why is everyone shocked?

It's the Patriots.

Re: 2016 Transaction Thread

Franchise tag for LBs next year is probably going to be like $14.5+

So we shouldn't be shocked if the Patriots trade Tom Brady in the offseason right? Just because we are the Pats. Cool. How many SB contending teams trade their 2nd or 3rd best player on defense for what could be a late 3rd rounder or even possibly a 4th rounder (if the Browns don't get a 3rd round comp pick)? So that's why it's surprising. He's the 9th best LBer in football this year according to PFF. Also we are the best team in the AFC.
