Did they state the reason?

My assumption was that its those plays where a coach earns his paycheck so they were using those cams to protect trade secrets you could say

They didn't get that in depth, it was just a segment on a local NBC affiliate here during the news Thursday night.

Every team gets the all 22 cam and it's also available online for anybody. They aren't protecting anything, they are making it easier to see the yardage needed and gained. It's hard to tell if you aren't used to the angle as most people prefer to sit on the sidelines at games and cameras have always shown that. It gets easier to tell how much yardage is gained sitting in the stands in the end zones, but it takes time.

I'm used to it, but I even found it hard to see the yellow line a lot of the time.

If it was just 3rd downs that is what I would think. But they also did it for the redzone. No matter where you are sitting the endzone is easy to make out.
