Not only did it cross, but it was also THEN touched by a Cowboy who failed to field it. It's still a kick so the kicking team can't advance, but it was essentially a muffed 2 yard punt. That's a turnover, so new set of downs.

Was it? The footage I saw the Cowboys player blocked/made contact with it in the backfield. Either way, yeah it's the weirdness of kicking plays and how possession change is considered instant and automatic. Now I want to see a punter aim directly at a defender and try to defect past the LOS of scrimmage to recover it.

So much strange special teams stuff today.

This play in the Packer game just now for example, there's no real conceivable way it should be a touchback, regardless of if it was touched by a Packer or not (which it was after a review).
